Our Collections
Typewriter/Cash Register Keys
The Key of A uses only authentic typewriter keys that are removed from machines dating back to the early 1900’s from brands such as Woodstock, Underwood, Smith Corona, Royal, Remington and L.C. Smith. Each key is grinded, cleaned and polished, yet being mindful to preserve a bit of its natural patina. Because all of the keys used for our jewelry and accessories are authentic, they may have slight imperfections which only add to their vintage character.
Skeleton/Cabinet/Trunk/Watch/Pocketwatch Keys
The Key of A hand selects all of its skeleton keys from collections found in the USA and Europe. Some date back to the late 1800s. All of the keys are tumbled, cleaned and polished, being careful to preserve their authentic look.
Piano Keytops
The Key of A uses only “preban” ivory, specifically from player pianos from the turn of the century that have since been restored. The keytops are each sanded, buffed and shaped into pendant bases for use in necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
Bullet/Shotgun Casings
We visit gun ranges, trade with hunters and gun enthusiasts to get the most popular casings. to create our line of bullet jewelry. We tumble all of the brass and nickel casings first to remove any debris and to give them a nice shine, but still leaving them toward the duller side since our jewelry tends to reflect the vintage inspired era. All casings and shells are spent, which means there is no risk or danger in owning one of our unique designs.
Railway/Transit/Amusement/Trade Tokens
We work with exonumia collectors across the United States to the best variety of railway, transit, bus and trolley tokens that were circulated from the early 1900s to the late 1960s. Because these are authentic tokens, they are all of a metal content, some of solid brass, so we use a special tumbling agent to gently clean and remove any stubborn debris and give them a slight luster. We do not drill any of our tokens since they are collectible coins and will only gain in value.
Miscellaneous Found Objects (i.e. Chandelier Parts, Optician Lens, Salt Shakers, etc.)
The Key of A hand picks all of its components, choosing only those pieces that inspire and able to be recreated into jewelry and accessories that are completely wearable and modern, yet have a bit of whimsy and old charm. All objects are cleaned and prepped to be utilized so that no residue, rust or other debris is left that could harm your skin or clothing.
